OZ PA Slot Tunnel Screen

by Coach Jake Franklin

This Tunnel Screen is effective due to the fact that eight out of eleven defenders commit to stopping the run because of the convincing Play-Action by the offense. Because most of the defense sold out to the run, they leave the slot receiver (who receives the screen pass) with a great deal of space to work with.

Pre-Snap, the field side TE who is off the ball motions across the formation, putting himself in the position of a “wing” next to the on-the-line TE who was originally on the opposite side of the ball. This shift triggers all three LB’s to slide towards the boundary, giving more room to the Slot Receiver (H) who is about to receive the screen pass to the field.

At the snap, the QB extends the ball out to the RB who is on an Outside Zone path. After the brief fake, the QB flips his hips and rifles the ball to the slot receiver who has two offensive linemen and another receiver blocking for him.
