Alabama – Swirl Concept

In the 2021 Iron Bowl, Alabama used the Swirl Route out of bunch formation to get on the board in the first OT. This route has been popular as it plays off of the Snag Concept that teams often run. Instead of running the Corner route for the traditional Snag Concept, the WR breaks for the Corner and sits down (Swirl Route). The WR that sits on the Snag Route now holds the ILB/underneath defender by running a clear out over route to open up the Swirl. Out of bunch and especially in the red zone teams run the Snag Concept trying to hit the corner route so the Swirl Concept is a great change up to get a big play.
