Clemson – Power Read Toss PAP

Clemson uses one of their run staples, Power Read, to create a big play with the play-action pass off it. In this look, Clemson is showing Power Read Toss where the QB will read the frontside DE. If the DE sits, the QB will toss the ball to the RB allowing him to get outside on a toss sweep. If the DE widens, the QB will pull the ball following his pulling OG for the power run. By putting the RB on the same side of the play, it allows for the QB to do a great job of manipulating the DE with his ability to fake the toss sweep to the RB. With the PAP, the QB can use that manipulation of faking the toss not only on the DE but to the LB’s and Secondary to get the defense flowing in one direction and throwing the ball downfield behind them.
