With 20 years in Coaching and Sports Technology and 6 with a competitor, Justin Scanson chooses Just Play because of high growth opportunity and doing it the “right way.”
Just Play Sports Solutions, a Kansas City sports technology company, has expanded their team with a focus on industry expertise, demonstrated most recently by the hiring of new Director of Marketing, Justin Scanson.
The three year old company has experienced explosive growth, expanding it’s client base from 154 teams in 2017 to over 400 teams today. Clients span across NBA, WNBA, NCAA DI, DII, DIII, NAIA and high school teams in football, basketball and lacrosse. The company has plans to expand into new sports in 2018.
“We are growing fast,” says co-founder Austin Barone. “Therefore, it’s critical that we bring the right people ‘on the bus’ in order to scale effectively. I speak for our entire leadership when I say that we couldn’t be more excited to bring Justin on board.”
One factor driving growth is the company’s continued focus on the customer. Just Play is quickly becoming an industry leader in preparation for coaches, leveraging what the company feels are the best content creation and teaching tools on the market.
“Justin brings a plethora of industry knowledge and has proven he can execute in the areas we need to scale. We feel the future of Just Play involves all levels, from youth to the pros, and landing a customer and content focused marketing mind like Justin is a big win for us.”
A former teacher, trainer, and coach, Scanson brings a unique background and skill set to Just Play. Scanson’s coaching resume spans all levels of basketball from middle school to college including a very successful run from 2006-2011 as an assistant coach under Tricia Binford at Montana State University. His post-coaching career has been one dedicated to coaches education, training, and growing the game of basketball. He has spent the last six years in the sports technology industry at FastModel Sports and MaxOne.
“My passion, for as long as I can remember, has been helping coaches,” said Scanson. “I am extremely excited about the opportunity I have with Just Play to help ‘Change the Game’ on how coaches teach and prepare their team. The team here has built something special and I’m thrilled to have the chance to be a part of Just Play’s exciting future.”
Before joining Just Play, Scanson spearheaded multiple content oriented projects including the creation of the FastModel Blog in March 2015. The site eclipsed the 1 Million view mark prior to Scanson’s departure from FastModel in September 2017. Scanson has also been the driving force behind a number of online coaching clinics that have featured influential coaches Tara VanDerveer, Tim Miles, and Jon Sanderson among others.
Just Play is committed to streamlining how coaches are able to teach, coach and prepare using one platform.
Utilizing a product suite that integrates content creation, video, and statistical analysis, coaches are able to apply teaching strategies that are appearing in the classroom. By bringing “flipped-teaching” to sports, Just Play is revolutionizing how coaches prepare and better engage athletes in today’s digital world.
“Our goal is to provide coaches everything they need to prepare, learn and teach. With a proven product that is now sport agnostic, we are excited about what’s to come,” said Barone.
