Claiming that Seattle’s defense has been relentless is a grave understatement. What Dan Quinn was able to do the last few years is incredible. Safety Kam Chancellor told ESPN that Quinn, “…allowed us to be ourselves. He got us to this point…we have a foundation here. We have standards now.”
How’d they do it?
If you’ve studied their defense, you quickly would find them running two coverages – Cover 1 (which is man, free) or Cover 3. They bring an extra person in the box and dare you to test their secondary. Seattle has one of the most basic defensive schemes in the NFL. They keep things simple and fundamentally sound.
They do less, but better.
This philosophy does not just apply to on-field strategy. The same principles can work for your program during practice and game preparation.
I was talking to a current Big 12 player (better not say his name or the NCAA might explode) about how they prepare each week. “It really is a pain in the ass,” he said. “We have so many handouts every week and they are always changing. Our video is in a completely separate place.”
Unfortunately this is common in today’s football landscape. Players have so much to keep track of with video, playbooks and gameplans being in different places. Coaches seem to be using a different software for everything they do.
So I showed this player the Just PlayTM system to get his thoughts.
“This would streamline everything. I can study anything – route concepts, plays, scouting reports – anything coach needs me to know.”
He’s right. Just PlayTM has made weekly preparation for players and coaches extremely easy by streamlining the way you build and distribute playbooks and gameplans. We integrate with any video breakdown system and provide you with in-app messaging for easy communication. Your players will have everything they need in one location and you can tweak or change things in seconds.
Just like the Seahawks’ defensive strategy, Just PlayTM can simplify the preparation process for your program.
We give you the foundation to do less – but better.
